A Project Summary Task displays your whole project on a single row with its own summary taskbar.

  1. Go to the Format tab on the ribbon
  2. Select Show/Hide section
  3. Click on the checkbox Project Summary Task

To make the Project Summary Task default for all new projects:
  1. Go to the File
  2. Select Options
  3. Select Advanced
  4. Scroll down to the middle of the screen
  5. Find Display Options For This Project
  6. Select For All New Projects from the drop down
  7. Put the checkbox Show Project Summary Task

Next time you restore the Project Professional and next time you start the project, you will see the Project Summary Task visible on your project schedule.

Proposed vs Committed

When selecting a resource to your project then you need to specify the Booking Type of this resource and you have two options: Proposed and Committed.
  1. If you want to build your project schedule but you don’t want to have users that see tasks, mark the resource Proposed. In this case none of the tasks will be visible to users.
  2. If you mark it as Committed, tasks will be immediately available to the users when you publish. Users will be able to see their projects, their new tasks, to report time.
  3. When a resource is not able to see the project, check their Booking Type. The reason could be  because they are proposed versus committed.
